Begehren des Marktes. NAKED ATTRACTION und Phantasmen der Klassenlosigkeit
Abstract
Based on an examination of the British reality game show NAKED ATTRACTION, the paper examines how class differences that play a vital part in reality television are dethematized with great effort and translated into questions of authenticity, privacy and supposedly classless forms of desire. The dating show is read as a symptom of current governmental technologies in which concepts of privacy and intimate relationships are understood to be beyond market logic and class differences. It is precisely the televisual thematization of nudity, desire and privacy that contributes to the production of this concept in a specific way and thus allows an outlook on television's class productions.
