Vom Wissen (in) der Film-Notation. Ivan Ladislav Galeta: Auf-Zeichnungen
Abstract
The article deals with film notation on paper, focusing on works by the Zagreb media artist Ivan Ladislav Galeta from the 1980s. In a complex way these film scores and graphics relate to the experimental films they generate or notate. The drawings, diagrams and tablets in Galeta′s work operate in a realm between cartography, choreography, and analysis, they dissect and synthesize spatial as well as temporal structures, entangling iconic and discursive elements. As the article shows, it is the notational iconicity and graphematic materiality which unfolds the epistemic quality of Galeta′s records: the cryptogrammatic structures of his films become readable and (for a second time) visible.
